Going to miss me when I’m gone…

Good Time Specials
From the Grateful Dead segue into Guns ‘N Roses back into the Grateful Dead!

We stopped at Ski Brule on Sunday (March 14, 2010) to deliver a CD of photos I had previously taken. We did not just drop off the CD and leave, but we went to the Bear Lodge and had a few drinks. On the porch, Good Time Specials was setup and playing music. The weather was fantastic and it all made for a very pleasant experience.

I did not hear too much of the band, they played maybe six or so numbers while we were there. They really revved me up when they played I Know You rider which you may recognize as a song The Grateful Dead also covered. They worked an interesting twist into the performance by segueing into a bluegrass rendition of Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns and Roses! Talk about a mash! I lost interest in the morph and resumed my previous level of interest (which was attentive but not super-keen toe tapping and singing along) and listened to it. Eventually, they came back and finished off I Know You rider.

Not only did they cover songs in the bluegrass style, they had original works they played for us. It is one thing to cover existing songs it is quite another to write your own original music, these players are not just a garage-bluegrass band!

So, they are setup with a MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/goodtimespecials and I suggest you check them and their performance schedule out! Tell them The Wisconsin Skier sent you!

Good Stuff!
