There is a Time

By: In: The Last Ride

Fellow Daily Crusher Debbie stopped by and left the following comment:

That last paragraph of yours got me to thinking. I’ve been working on trying to live in the moment. Your analogy really describes how I use to live most of my life. Worrying about that last hill back home. Thanks for the food for thought. Have a great day!

This was in response to my post on Bicycling. In it, I noted that I have no problem riding out on the trail near my house, because it is all a gradual grade downhill. The trip back is uphill so it is more difficult than the trip out. I play a little mental game when riding the return leg and that is I imagine myself at the next road and not at home. This makes it easier and provides me with a mental boost.

Most should recognize what I am doing, I am dividing the task into smaller and easier to accomplish tasks!

Get Outside!

By: In: The Last Ride

I find there are a number of different activities many skiers like. Obviously most of them are outdoor activities, if the cold, snow, and winds of Winter do not keep us from skiing we will surely find as many reasons we can to be outside during the summer. I am sure I am not the only one that goes crazy being confined inside all day when it is sunny and pleasant outside. I will find any reason to be outside. Watch the grass grow was a common reason last summer.

The Off Season

By: In: The Last Ride

A major drawback of skiing is its seasonal nature. I suppose, I could continue skiing throughout the summer by traveling to Chile, Argentina, or Australia; but for a variety of reasons that is not happening (if I was in a position to ski in the southern hemisphere, then I’ld be on the mountains of Colorado, Utah, California, Washington, Canada, Vermont, etc on regular basis). So, in order to keep myself active I have to find other things to do in the off season.

What are those activities? What are your off-ski-season activities?

Skiing in the Great Outdoors

Fly Like a Bird!

A Soaring Bald Eagle

I count myself fortunate, I am often times non-reactive to quite a bit of wildlife. I see a bald eagle while clearing snow in my driveway and I hope it does not let a load loose into my eyes, and, at best I consider deer – venison, and at worst a potential insurance & car repair hassle.

The Wisconsin Snow Bunny and myself live in farm country in Northeast Wisconsin, about 25 miles south and a bit west of Green Bay, roughly 40-50 miles straight west of Manitowoc. We live far enough from Appleton it seems like we are in the country but not too far from its conveniences (our tax bill says we live close). Regularly we see turkeys, eagles, hawks, cranes, deer, and the whole range of farm animals.

Ski Road Tripping (Final Part)

Boarder

Dude about to hit the headwall!

How was skiing at Monarch Mountain? It was phenomenal, but unfortunately, I was not prepared for it at least on the first day of skiing.

As I noted in the previous installment I did not have a great breakfast. So by mid-way through the first day my legs were jelly and I went into the base place hoping to get them firmed up again, but it was not happening. Too bad and that is a mistake I will never make again. Have a generous breakfast before skiing.

The Days and Nights of Abba

By: In: The Last Ride
Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find
I tried to reach for you, but you have closed your mind
Whatever happened to our love?
I wish I understood
It used to be so nice, it used to be so good

So when you’re near me, darling can’t you hear me
S. O. S.
The love you gave me, nothing else can save me
S. O. S.
When you’re gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you’re gone
Though I try how can I carry on?

Ski Road Tripping

By: In: The Last Ride

Back in 2005 I was a member of road trip questing for snow and family.

That was an all around good trip. The trip was out to Cañon City Colorado. The family was my cousin and the snow was found at Monarch Mountain.
