I was asked via Twitter why I ask you to register and logon to comment.
The reason is a four letter word: S-P-A-M.
The first time you logon and comment I must approve the comment, if I approve the comment you are on the good list and while you must logon, I will no longer need to approve. However, I will monitor discussions and edit or delete comments I deem inappropriate.
Please be assured I respect your privacy and will endeavor to keep the information you provide private. Certainly, I will not sell or distribute that information to third parties. Nor will I distribute e-mails to the registered user list. If I want to create an e-mail list to communicate with you all, it will be via opt-in list. That is, you must explicitly request to get on the list. There will be no slyly checked checkboxes saying you want to be on the list.
One last word, I WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER e-mail you asking for your username and password, date of birth, social security number (not even last four), etc. If your password is lost there is a process here by which you can recover without having to ask me for it.

Glad to see I could generate some discussion
I wasn’t worried about the privacy aspect. I just have so many passwords to remember. This site keeps me logged in once I log in, but I was a away a while and it wanted a password again. I could not find it and just thought I would ask why. No biggy.

Okay, understood, we all have the same problem with logons. PC operating systems were just starting to get caught up with and then a number of sites I visit have managed to disable or block ID memorization schemes.
The meat of the above article needed to be said and I have started writing a set of policies relating to privacy, use of, and so on. I need to finish that effort off and publish up above.
I am active on Facebook (actually that activity is starting to lessen) and I hate it when I join a group or a what-have-you that constantly blasts out communications, plus lord knows how many e-mail lists we are on whether on a full volunteer basis, semi-voluntarily, or involuntarily.
