The Packers

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Being The Wisconsin Skier you can be sure I am a Packer fan. I was born in Green Bay and was only miles from Lambeau Field when the Ice Bowl was played (however being roughly six months of age at the time, I was not there) so yeah, I am a Packer fan.

One thing great about most of the NFL season is it does not conflict with skiing. Eventually though it does, especially if the Packers are in contention for a playoff berth or are in the playoffs.

The 2010-2011 WiSki Season

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

The Wisconsin Skier is open for business again or perhaps it is better to say, getting ready for business again.

I have some updates in mind for the site and some new features in mind. I will not say what they are until they are near completion.

Wakey Wake!

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Wow!

Within the last week the volume of tweets I am seeing is picking up immensely! It would be unbearable if the tweets were literally bird chirps.

Now mind you, the tweets I am talking about relate to a certain topic. Whatever could that topic be?

Sugar is Sweet

Monday, May 17th, 2010

One story I have been following the last month or so is the attempts to bring Sugarloaf Mountain back into the ski business. Being I live West of Lake Michigan and Sugarloaf is on its East shore I am not following too closely but fellow ski writer Jason at the MI Ski Report has been following the story very closely.

Normally, one would think such a story would be rather uncontroversial, a fellow comes in and wants to buy the resort and bring it back into operation and business. That means jobs and income for people and not just at the resort but around the community. Not everyone will stay at the resort, people need gasoline and cola for the drive back home, and so on.

So what is the big controversy surrounding the possible resurrection of Sugarloaf Mountain?

Knowing Your Equipment

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

A lot of sports involve equipment or gear of some sort. Most of us who participate in such sports on a recreational basis often times do not pay a lot of attention to the gear we use, and if we do it is more for aesthetic purposes than for performance reasons.

Given we all have limited time and resources we have to pick and choose our areas of focus. If you participate in an equipment laden sport and want to perform at high levels then you need to pay more attention to your equipment, even if you are not going to advance to a professional or top level amateur leagues.

Skiing at Nordic Mountain?

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

I don’t think so. I live about an hour or so from Nordic Mountain and so I think they are experiencing the same weather we are.

This video gives you an idea of the weather we currently have:

Update: Today it is sunny and warm. So if any snow survived last night’s storms it might be okay for a bit today.

The Crud

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

One week from last Saturday I took a bike ride. The weather was not optimal and I was not dressed appropriately. Not only those two factors, but I had little and poor sleep the night before and was extremely stressed out with an incident from the day before eating at my soul.

To add to that, I took a longer than normal ride.

Nature’s Tug

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Many imagine nature as only nurturing, but lets be honest, it can also be destructive. Many animals in addition to us, build structures to aid in survival and all such animals have to work to maintain those structures. One thing people new to house ownership quickly learn is the forces of nature conspire against them and work to reclaim the materials used to build the house. This results in an activity we call maintenance.

Ski Dreaming

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

From time to time I dream of skiing. I am not talking of day dreaming, but about night dreams.

It is one thing to day dream of something, but to night dream of it is different. Last night I had a ski dream, I always wake up from these thinking I am a better skier than I really am, or perhaps the dreams are closer to reality than I give them credit for.
