Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, if you're a day-tripper who hasn't bought a ticket yet, you're not losing anything to the resort if you get there and it says, "Nope, we're closed today." That said, some people do buy tickets (and nothing else) online, for a specific date.

Just wrote about that here: http://twincitiesskisnowboard.wordpress.com/2014/01/06/cold-enough-to-close-ski-areas-in-minnesota/

You write, "People pay good money to stay with a resort and if a resort believes the conditions warrant suspending snow operations that is no fault of the guests and they need to be taken care of. If I show up at the resort with a lift ticket and am denied the opportunity to ride that is something quite different and there is no obligation on the resort’s part."

I'm not sure I agree with that. What's the difference between the two situations? In either case, the guest is denied the chance to ski/ride. In the case of stay/ticket package, at least the guest gets a room to stay in.

But yes, giving a complimentary lift ticket should be something the resort does. Not to sure what to do, if anything, about the value of a room stay when it's too cold for the wheels to turn.
