Digg conducts interviews of celebrities from time to time. They prep for the interview by asking Digg participants to submit questions and the questions receiving the top number of Diggs are worked into the interview.
The last Digg dialog was with Julia Mancuso and for the most part is very interesting, and I strong suggest you go view it, you can see what questions are raised and where in the video and skip those questions you judge lame.
There were a number of lame questions, but since they were submitted early on in the process they got more diggs than other questions I judged more deserving.
The goofiest question I saw and fortunately did not make it went along these lines: Many skiers often commit mistakes in Ski Carving since it is a fairly new concept which originated from Alpine Snowboarding. What would be your tips in terms of proper body positioning when Ski Carving. Thank you.x My response pointing out carving originated with skiing and Warren Witherell talks of it in How the Racers Ski which was published in 1972!
According to websites I have looked at snowboarding was developed in the 1960s and 1970s and skiing preceeded this by how long? The rules for the downhill ski event were established in 1921 so it seems to me alpine skiing was around way before snowboarding. Now, I can not find any definitive source talking of when carving was developed in skiing, but I do recall Warren Miller in a Ski Magazine talking about the invention of the metal ski edge and add to that this site putting that date in 1928. So, snowboarders did not invent carving of that I am sure.
However, one of the websites I read in researching this post indicate that snowboard shape did provide inspiration to the design of the modern ski. Of that, I will not quibble with.
One request dear readers, please visit that Digg article and Digg the Wisconsin Skier’s questions and responses. Thank You!
