Big Powderhorn — Burns Down — Loss Total

WLUK Reports reports Big Powderhorn Ski Resort located in Michigan’s UP has burned down:

The fire broke out Thursday morning in the main lodge of the Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort near Bessemer. Gogebic County sheriff’s deputy Jay Kangas says crews were still trying to extinguish it.

Kangas says no injuries have been reported, but the building appears to be a total loss.

The cause is unknown. A resort employee tells WLUC Television in Negaunee it started in a kitchen.

Another source I have seen reports the loss is total.

WLUK has a set of photos from the disaster.

I saw other reports that Big Powderhorn’s ownership and management plans to continue with ski operations this winter. However, I speculate, that they will have to be shut down for a while. I am sure investigators are not going to want even a few skiers about and then management and ownership has to set up some facilities for skiers, employees, and management. They have to take care of lift tickets, equipment rental, ski patrol, a place for customers to change in & out of their ski gear, and so on and so forth. They will have a lot of short nights in front of them.

I see a bright spot I see in all of this, still that bright spot is small in comparison to the loss.

Good luck and all the best to Big Powderhorn Mountain in dealing with this disaster.

Good Stuff!
