The Hill is Flat — An Oxymoron?

2010 WINTER OLYMPICS

In the downhill portion of today’s women’s super-combined ski competition the commentators were saying something that may have sounded odd to the non-skier: the hill was very flat. I can not recall if she was saying the lighting was flat but in any event that needs explanation. For today, while the sun was out, the downhill was in the shade and as a skier I am not real fond of skiing in the shade on a sunny day.

CONGRATULATIONS LINDSEY & JULIA!

2010 WINTER OLYMPICS

WOW! What a performance by those two women!

Lindsey Vonn wins the gold in a heck of a performance. The post-victory interview was real cool to watch as well, she was all into it and it paid off for her. Julia obviously did a heck of a job too, what else can be said about a gold & silver.

It is no huge shock Lindsey won, despite the injury. I have not been watching the world cup skiing as much as I usually do but I thought I heard it noted Lindsey has only lost one downhill event this season.

BTW, the three women who wiped out there are all okay.

2010 WINTER OLYMPICS

Over on Twitter I see a lot of my tweeties deriding figure skating. I will admit, I stew when alpine skiing gets the short shrift to figure skating, but think about it people.

2010 WINTER OLYMPICS

The 2010 WINTER OLYMPICS

The Wisconsin Skier wants to congratulation the both of you on your fine performances last evening. Immediately I noted the both of your performances were medal caliber. The way the both of you attacked those moguls was awesome and I paid very close attention to the way you skied.

Also I want to pass a fist bump onto Jennifer Heil from the Canadian ski team for her silver performance.

I’m not one for the aerial part, but watching you two ski put some fuel into my mogul tank. I can not wait to get to a bump field with my K2s.

The Danger of the Winter Olympics

By: In: Competition

2010 WINTER OLYMPICS

The 2010 WINTER OLYMPICS

I hear quite a few people cracking on the Winter Olympics, as if the Winter events are not real sports or are fru-fru. However, as the horrific event of earlier today demonstrates (I write this the day of the opening) there is very real danger not just to Olympic participant’s limbs but to their lives as well.
